When we got the news that we were to close for two weeks starting March 14, we never expected we would still be closed two months later. Yet here we are. We miss opening our doors so you can pick out a great book, attend storytime, or do research on our computers, but we’re glad to see so many of you taking advantage of the library’s digital offerings, resources and online events to do all that and more in new ways during quarantine.

As we continue to adapt to the new normal, we’ve also been working with directors of other LCLC libraries and our district consultant on a reopening plan while we await direction from The Office of Commonwealth Libraries. That guidance will shape workplace logistics, proper handling of materials, the services we can offer, and requirements for staff and patrons, among other things. As soon as we have specific details and a reopening date–which hinges on moving into the yellow phase so we can start preparing–we’ll share them with you here and on our social media channels.

One thing we can tell you now is that in the age of social distancing–and in the name of protecting staff, volunteers and you, our valued patrons–things will not look and feel the same as in the past (‘hello curbside pick-up and outdoor events’). Sadly, we’ve had to nix the in-person 80th birthday celebration we had planned, as well as our big kickoff party for Summer Reading Club, but we are working hard to create a great #SummerAtEPL and SRC nonetheless, and have our sights set on a special closing party in August instead. Keep your fingers crossed, stay tuned, and get ready to ‘Imagine Your Story’ with us as we begin our next chapter.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we get closer each day to the new beginning.
