If warmer days have you dreaming of a lush garden that bears healthy food all summer, come in to the library for free seed packets to get it started!
Tucked away in the drawers that used to house our card catalog, you’ll find seeds for vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Selection varies, as packets are provided through donations from seed suppliers. The seed library is usually restocked in early spring, and packets are available while they last.
Choose up to four packets and take them to the desk along with your library card. Easy peas-y.
If you have the space, consider planting an extra row and dropping off the produce at the library for Plant A Row Lehigh Valley. They pick up donated garden and grocery produce at the library every Monday throughout the summer—usually beginning in mid-June—and distribute it to local pantries and food banks. Check our calendar for dates and drop off your clean produce on Sundays after 7 p.m. or Mondays before 10 a.m. in the cooler near the library entrance.
You can also donate extra seeds back to the seed library if they’re in a sealed packet labeled with the seed name and date harvested.
